Kinect Attendee Giveaway - FAQ

* Who is eligible to receive the Kinect sensor?
This personal use giveaway is for full-conference attendees who are onsite at MIX11. It is not available to Microsoft attendees, members of the media, government employees, Microsoft staff/speakers, crew, or guests.

* When will eligible attendees receive the Kinect sensor?
Eligible attendees may pick up their Kinect sensor as follows:
Wednesday, April 13, 12:30pm - 6:30pm in Shorelines A (meal room)
Thursday, April 14, 8:00am - 4:00pm, Registration Desk
Kinect sensors will only be distributed onsite at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. There is no post-event fulfillment option for eligible attendees.

* Is the Kinect sensor mine to keep?
Yes, for eligible attendees, the Kinect sensor is yours to keep. You should carefully consider your personal circumstances, such as your employment policy, and ensure this allows you to receive personal use giveaways. This is particularly relevant if your employer paid for you to attend MIX11. Government employees are not allowed to receive personal use items, and as such, they are not eligible to receive the Kinect sensor.

* How much does the Kinect sensor cost?
The Kinect sensor is a promotion for eligible attendees with no increase to the conference registration price.

* What happens if I lose my Kinect sensor?
We will not provide replacements for lost sensors.

* What if I have questions about my Kinect sensor?
If you have questions regarding your Kinect sensor, please visit the Xbox Online Service Center at https://myservice.xbox.com/en-US/Pages/Welcome.aspx.

Note that the session list on the MIX11 web site is correct, as is the data that is used in the mobile applications.

Announcing the Curious Cloud Contest

Can you build a contraption to get your sensor into the right state (you know we’re talking about an electronic senor array, right)? Announcing the Rube Goldberg and the Curious Cloud Contest at MIX11.

MIX11 attendees, sign up at the Coding4Fun booth in The Commons (11am - 5pm today), get a sensor array and go forth into the wilds of Vegas to create the most creative, over-the-top and completely unnecessary contraption to get that sensor into its longed for state.

The sensor connects to the cloud - the cloud connects to a Web page - a video proves to the world your complete and utter insanity.

Get your kit starting April 12 at the Coding4Fun booth in The Commons
Submit your entries by Midnight, April 14

Can’t attend MIX in-person? Watch the keynotes live from Las Vegas, April 12 & 13 at 9am PDT (4pm GMT), via live.visitmix.com.

Tune-in for the latest announcements from Internet Explorer, Windows Phone and Silverlight. Keynote streaming is free; no registration is required to participate. The Channel 9 Live team picks up the live coverage immediately following the keynote - preview the Channel 9 Live guest lineup.

Celebrate at the Niney Awards - Get Your Wristband

Join the Channel 9 team as they honor the technical community at the Niney Awards on Wednesday, April 13th, 2011 at the Marquee Nightclub (in The Cosmopolitan) main room by 7:15 PM. The show will take place from 7:30-8:15 PM. Scott Gurthrie, Scott Hanselman, Joe Belfiore will be among those honoring the community with the 13 awards that will be handed out. The Attendee Party follows the Niney Awards at 9pm.

Wristbands will be required to get entry into the party. You can pick up your wristband at the Channel 9 Live booth after the first keynote from 11 from 11:30 AM-6:00 PM (or until the limited number of wristbands run out).

The first 20 people to pick up their wristband will get Party Bus Limo transportation from the Mandalay Bay Hotel to the Cosmopolitan Hotel @ City Center.

Who Do You Think You Are?

With just a handful of days before MIX11 opens, we thought it would be fun to share a little more about MIX attendees. This year, over 30% of attendees are coming from outside the U.S. - that number has remained fairly stable since 2006. About half of this year's attendees work for companies that build and design websites for others; another 33% work for companies with consumer facing websites. And if your name is Michael or David, you're in good company at MIX.

Don't forget to update your registration record to opt-in to the MIX11 attendee directory, add your photo and start networking.

Lynn Langit, Sr. Developer Evangelist Microsoft, delivers technical presentations live and online. Currently she's been speaking on SQL Azure. Lynn is also the co-creator of www.TeachingKidsProgramming.org. In her work supporting Women in Technology Lynn has partnered with LEGO to create WomenBuild with Lego Serious Play. Thomas Mueller has been working with databases for over 15 years. He received his Master of Science in Information Systems from the Claremont Graduate University in 2004. For the last 6 years Thomas has been leading the database team at a medical consulting company in Santa Ana, CA. In his spare time Thomas participates in community events such as round tables, user groups, code camps, and conferences. Over the last few years he created and programmed several different LEGO® Mindstorms robots.
